What Fine Machining Finish are Available for Rapid Prototyping?

In finish machining post-treatment, polished by manual is still a main method for rapid prototyping in China. However, for some products with complex cavity and slit surface finishing, traditional machining methods are no longer sufficient. We have to take other process, such as electrochemical or electrochemical mechanical finishing.

 

Manual grinding and polishing do not require special equipment and has strong adaptability. It mainly depends on the operator’s experience and technical level, and the efficiency is low (about 1/3 of the entire rapid prototypes cycle). And workers have high labor intensity and unstable quality.

 

Digital polishing machine adopts digital control, digital display and control of process parameters, it has complete set of grinding heads and abrasives. Semi-automatic polishing, with the advantages of small size, convenient use, stable quality and good repeatability.

 

Ultrasonic polishing machine adopts the principle of high frequency electric spark pulse power supply and ultrasonic rapid vibration grinding for polishing. It can complete the tortuous parts such as narrow grooves, narrow slits, edges and corners that are difficult for general polishing tools (electric grinding soft shafts, etc.) to reach.  And it does not collapse edges after polishing, does not affect the accuracy of prototypes.

 

Electrochemistry and its composite light finishing technology are mainly processed by the principle of electrochemical anode dissolution of metal workpieces. Because it is non-contact processing, there is no processing deformation layer, metamorphic layer and residual stress, and the tool has no wear and can be used for a long time. And there is no burrs or burrs are generated. The life of electrochemical machining is more than 5 times longer than that of general super finishing.
