In recent years, AC/DC converters in the field of home appliances and industrial equipment must not only support AC input 85V～264V to handle AC voltages around the world, but also comply with energy efficiency standards “Energy Star*3” and safety standards “IEC 62368” and so on, the power system needs to be constructed from an international perspective. Among them, for the AC/DC converter IC, not only must these requirements be met, but also a surface mount package form is required to reduce the installation cost of the factory. However, in fact, DMOSFETs and Planar MOSFETs that generate a lot of loss and heat are still widely used in AC/DC converter ICs, and it is difficult to meet the output power requirements of tens of watts even for surface-mount packaged products. To solve these problems, ROHM has developed a new product with 45W output power. The new product has integrated low-loss SJ-MOSFET and optimized control circuit in a small surface mount package.
The new product is an IC that integrates ROHM’s low-loss power semiconductor (Super Junction MOSFET, “SJ-MOSFET”) and control circuit, etc., to an AC/DC converter with an AC input of 85V～264V and an output power of 45W. Development becomes easier. The new product adopts a surface-mount package, which realizes the automatic installation of circuit boards that was difficult in the past; and also adopts a specially developed control circuit, which can also comply with the ” IEC 62368*4″ standard; At the same time, ROHM’s own low standby power consumption control technology is used to significantly reduce standby power consumption. Not only that, the highest operating power supply voltage (VCC) can reach 60V, without the need for an external power supply circuit for step-down. Compared with ordinary products with the same performance, support for automatic installation will help reduce the installation cost of the factory, while also reducing standby power consumption by more than 90%, and reducing 4 power circuit components, thereby helping to improve energy saving and reliability sex.
The new product has begun to sell samples in July 2021 (the sample price is 500 yen/piece, excluding tax), and it is planned to temporarily put into mass production at a monthly production scale of 200,000 starting from January 2022. 1.Surface mount package, can support up to 45W output power, help reduce factory installation costs
The new product integrates a low-loss (low on-resistance) 730V withstand voltage SJ-MOSFET, a startup circuit and an optimized control circuit in a small and good heat dissipation surface mount package (SOP20A). As a surface mount package product that supports input voltage AC 85V～264V, it supports high output power of up to 45W (24V×1.875A=45W, etc.) that was difficult to achieve in the past, and realizes automatic installation that ordinary plug-in products cannot achieve , Which will greatly help reduce the installation cost of the factory.
2.Standby power consumption is more than 90% lower than ordinary products
The new product adopts a control circuit (X capacitor*5 discharge function) that incorporates ROHM high withstand voltage process technology and analog design technology. Even if the previously necessary discharge resistor that is both a loss source and an anti-shock function is eliminated, it can still meet safety standards.” IEC 62368″ safety requirements. In addition, the use of its own low standby power control technology (optimized control of the switching times of power semiconductors and the current flowing through the isolation transformer) further reduces the IC power consumption during application standby, and the system standby power consumption is reduced compared with ordinary products It succeeded in suppressing the standby power consumption to 17mW (AC input 230V, output power 0W).
In addition, it is equipped with a noise reduction mode to suppress abnormal noise from the isolation transformer. When you want to reduce the standby power consumption, you can turn off the noise reduction mode. When you are worried about the abnormal noise of the isolation transformer or want to speed up the development speed, you can turn on the noise reduction mode. Therefore, an ideal power supply system can be provided according to the application product.
3.The number of power circuit components is reduced by 4, the risk of power semiconductor failure is lower, and the reliability of the power supply is higher
The new product can work in a wider VCC power supply voltage range from 11V to 60V. The maximum power supply voltage of 60V is twice that of ordinary products, and it has high reliability for external noise interference and surge voltage. In addition, it can also reduce the 4 components of the external power supply circuit for step-down required by ordinary products.
Not only that, the built-in power semiconductors also use SJ-MOSFETs with strong surge voltage resistance (the breakdown resistance index-avalanche withstand capability is more than 30 times higher than the built-in DMOSFET and Planar MOSFET in ordinary products), The risk of failure of semiconductors is reduced, thus helping to improve the reliability of the power supply system.
