Micron officially released GDDR6X memory: bandwidth 1TB/s, what else HBM

With the release of NVIDIA RTX 30 series graphics cards, Micron also officially launched a new generation of GDDR6X graphics memory, known as “the world’s fastest graphics memory”.

HBM is of course faster, but it’s all packaged with the GPU and much more expensive.

GDDR6X is naturally an upgraded version of GDDR6, just like the relationship between GDDR5X and GDDR5, the basic architecture and technology remain unchanged, and the PAM4 signaling mechanism is added. and transmit two bits.

At the same time, the data rate (frequency) of GDDR6X has been further improved, currently reaching 19GHz, and the next step will be 21GHz, which can provide an amazing bandwidth of more than 1TB/s.

In terms of capacity, GDDR6X currently has a single 1GB, and a single 2GB will be added next year.

GDDR5X is developed by Micron and NVIDIA in depth. The GTX 1080 is first equipped with 11GB GDDR5X, and the RTX 3090/3080 is equipped with 24GB/10GB GDDR6X respectively.

The GDDR6X still uses a BGA-180 package with a size of 14 × 12 mm and a solder ball pitch of 0.75 mm. It is fully compatible with GDDR6, which simplifies design and upgrades.

Micron’s GDDR6X has now been put into mass production, and the RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 will be available for sale on September 17th and 24th, respectively.
