Before stepping down, Trump plans to blacklist SMIC

On November 30, Reuters reported that the outgoing Trump administration was preparing to add SMIC and CNOOC to a blacklist, limiting their access to U.S. investors.

It is reported that the list also includes China Construction Technology Co., Ltd. and China International Engineering Consulting Company. The Pentagon did not respond to a request for comment.

This move by Trump before Biden took office will undoubtedly further exacerbate tensions between China and the United States.

Before stepping down, Trump plans to blacklist SMIC

Reuters reported last week that the Trump administration will announce that 89 Chinese companies in aerospace and other fields have ties to the military and will restrict their purchases of a range of U.S. products and technologies.

SMIC has become Washington’s target. In September, the Commerce Department imposed restrictions on the company’s exports after it concluded there was an “unacceptable risk” that equipment supplied to the company could be used for military purposes.
